“To find inspiration I seek out the fringes of civilization, following rivers up through cottonwoods and canyons to the high slopes of the majestic Rockies. I feel most at home where the wilderness inspires me to take risks, innovate and explore.”
Formally trained at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Reti spent his Junior year abroad at Parsons Paris and the Liceo Artistico di Porta Romana in Florence. He has traveled throughout the world including Africa, Europe, South America and most recently Southeast Asia, where he has absorbed many of the world’s greatest museums and cultures, fueling his passion for the arts.
Nicholas challenges his brush with a broad range of subjects from closely observed scenes of mountain village life to expansive views of the high peaks. Having lived in Crested Butte, Colorado for the past eight years, surrounded by some of Colorado’s largest wilderness areas, Reti makes frequent excursions into the backcountry. His field sketches and studies made during pack trips are translated into large finished canvasses that transport the observer to those very wild places and give one a vivid sense of being there.
Most recently T. Boone Pickens acquired Reti’s 5’x6’ painting “Beaver Pond Sunset” for his Mesa Vista Ranch Art Collection. Among the many awards and recognition Reti has received are the Western Merit Award at the 2010 Salon International, a solo show at the Byers Evans House Museum in Denver, and Best of Show and 1st place in the Denver Plein Air Exhibitions.
Reti is the owner of Oh Be Joyful Gallery in Crested Butte, a thriving art gallery celebrating its tenth year representing over 30 of the West’s most talented artists.
